Stress
Did you know that chronic stress can make your head and your heart sick? Here’s what happens to a stressed out body.
We all know how crazy stress makes us feel. We get irritable, feel grumpy, and look menacingly at every driver or pedestrian who gets in our way. But that frazzled feeling is not all that stress brings. When stress becomes a staple in the menu of your life, it can leave your body weak and sick.
Five major systems of the body fall vulnerable to illness when you are under stress. These are the neuro-endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems. A little stress may not make you sick right away, but if you are constantly feeling embattled and tired, you may be doing yourself a lot of harm.
Take what happens to the genitourinary system. Constant stress can decrease the tone of your bladder. It is the tone that makes us feel the urge to urinate. If the tone is lost, you delay your urination. That will place you at high risk for urinary tract infection. Always postponing a bathroom break to take a phone call or write a report? Your ignored bladder may end up bearing the brunt. Weakened tome may also cause you to go there other extreme; you have to make bathroom trips all the time.
